As part of the
CHSVT Vocational Curriculum at Northwest State Correctional Facility in St.
Albans, a team has constructed and built a wooden boat, named Endeavor. The
Teaching Team has met to formulate plans at the
Lake Champlain Maritime Museum in Vergennes,
Vermont.
The boat is a 32 foot long pilot
gig. The lumber for this boat was milled at the Windsor Prison Farm by students
of the Community High School of Vermont.
The lofting work was done by
students at the Northern State Correctional Facility in Newport and the actual
construction occurred at Northwest State Correctional Facility in St.
Albans.
Upon completion, a team of
students from Burlington Community Correctional Service Center (CCSC) will be
trained as a Crew Team.
It is our hope to challenge other
schools and programs who are building similar boats with the assistance of the
Lake Champlain Maritime Museum.
The boat was given to Lake
Champlain Maritime Museum's LongBoat Program for Youths. The boat is named
"Endeavor."
Shown below are photos of the
Faculty and Students working on the boat.
